More About Emily
Our Story
Founded in 2020 in Ocala, Florida, Oakmont Thoroughbreds was born from Emily’s lifelong passion for horses and a career spent on both sides of the Thoroughbred industry. Emily grew up as a working student on the Florida hunter/jumper circuit before trading her Samshield and Parlanti's for a vest and skull cap at 18 and beginning her career on the racetrack. Over the years, she worked her way from grooming and riding a small string to breezing horses, traveling throughout the country as an assistant trainer, and eventually managing a 50-horse racing operation at Saratoga. Her extensive experience has given her a unique understanding of the Thoroughbred, both on and off the track.
Today, Emily combines her racing background with her experience in the sport-horse world to help Thoroughbreds find successful careers beyond racing. Oakmont specializes in thoughtfully retraining and placing quality off-the-track Thoroughbreds while selectively working with horses and riders pursuing careers in the show ring.
Her passion for developing the breed beyond the racetrack has also led to success in the Retired Racehorse Project. In 2021, Emily attended her first Thoroughbred Makeover, where her horse earned Best Condition in the Show Hunter division. Most recently, she returned with South Bend, a former Kentucky Derby starter, transitioning him from a successful racing career into show jumping. The pair won the Show Jumping preliminary division out of 71 entries, earned a place among the Top 10 finalists, and ultimately finished third overall in the final competition.
These experiences reflect the heart of Oakmont’s mission: showcasing the versatility, athleticism, and potential of the Thoroughbred beyond its racing career. Emily is passionate about creating opportunities for these horses in the sport-horse industry while encouraging the next generation of horsemen and women to become involved in both racing and aftercare.
A racing career is only one chapter in a Thoroughbred’s story. Oakmont is dedicated to helping write what comes next.

We are so excited to have gotten Rally for my granddaughter. Emily was so helpful in working with our limited schedule. She answered a million questions and helped with all arrangements. At our trial, she gave McKie so much help and guidance. We are loving Rally. Thank you Emily!

Highly recommend Oakmont thoroughbreds to anyone looking for their next OTTB🦄 I recently purchased a horse from Emily, while waiting for shipping she sent picts and updates on him! She takes the time, patience, and the best care of her horses to ensure happy healthy horses. Couldn’t be happier with my experience!

I bought a horse not too long ago off Emily, not only did she help me in more ways than I can count, but she was just amazing to deal with. I live in Canada and the horse purchased was in the US, not only did she keep him at her facility for longer than expected, that way I had time to arrange proper shipping, but she took care of all his paperwork and took the best care of him!
I highly recommend her and if I’m ever looking for a horse in the future I will 100% be going through her!
